Governor | John Hanson

I am so pleased and excited to be joining the Governing Body for Trinity Academy St Edward’s. I am looking forward to watching the academy develop and seeing the vision come to life. I look forward to meeting staff, parents and pupils through the role. I was born in Huddersfield in 1948. I trained as a Biology teacher at Manchester Polytechnic and obtained my Membership of the Society of Biology at Huddersfield Polytechnic. A few years later I was made a Chartered Member of the Society of Biology. I retrained in physics at the St. John’s College in York and completed my Master of Education degree in computer based learning at Leeds University. I taught in a number of schools and worked for Wakefield LEA for seven years as an Advisory Teacher introducing IT and Technology.

I retired from full time teaching in 2004 and I still work part time for Wakefield Local Authority’s graduate teacher training scheme. I have been recognized by DfE as a National Leader in Governance and I am on the governing bodies of a number of secondary and primary schools. I retired as a magistrate in 2018. I am a committed Christian and act as the secretary to the PCC of St. John’s Church, Wakefield. I have been fortunate to be elected as Lay Chairman of Wakefield Deanery and a member of the Diocese of Leeds Diocesan synod for the last ten years. I am currently standing for election for the new Diocesan Synod which will run from 2021 to 2034.

Many thanks,
John Hanson
