Curriculum Leader of English | Amy Harkins

I am extremely thrilled to join Team Trinity and to start my role as Curriculum Leader of English at Trinity Academy St Edward’s. I have worked in Barnsley for most of my career and I am really looking forward to being a part of the community alongside the founding cohort of students.

Having studied both English Language and Literature at University, I am extremely passionate about my subject. It is far too difficult to pinpoint one favourite text; ‘The Secret Garden’, ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ‘Hamlet’ are to name a few! I love to read books from the thriller genre in my spare time; I enjoy the tense anticipation of solving a mystery. I believe that everyone can immerse themselves into the subject and develop an appreciation for English. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing students critique Literature and explore their own style of writing. I am currently an Assistant Subject Leader where I have had the fantastic opportunity to design and develop schemes of learning, deliver CPD training on AQA exams, and work with many innovative and inspirational teachers.

Hopefully, I will be getting married in summer and will start my new role in September as Mrs Minney. During the holidays and weekends, I like to explore new places with my dog, family, and friends. I enjoy baking and crafting at home and I cannot wait to be involved in the extra-curricular activities on offer at TAB. My vision is to ensure that the English team will expose students to a broad range of opportunities such as, creating origami and writing haikus to give students a taste of different cultures.

I look forward to meeting you all in September.
