I hope that everyone is safe and well. I am delighted to send out my fourth blog with yet further good news around recruitment. Please read below to meet two more members of our team and get an important update from me about our school site.

Over the next few weeks we have our latest round of recruitment of staff and will be filling positions for Curriculum Leaders, subject co-ordinators and teachers. I will introduce colleagues once we have appointed them all. In the meantime, we continue to move towards opening in September and are currently working on lots of exciting systems for both staff and pupils while starting to develop our curriculum offer. We have also finalised the uniform and I will share photos, prices and details of what is needed and where you can buy it from in a future blog.

TAB Site!

As some of you may have seen there was an article in the Barnsley Chronicle regarding the site and our academy. Below is the response that I have placed on our website about this and I hope that this and the latest appointments help to reassure you we are moving forward as planned. Update on progress from the Principal: As the chosen provider to deliver the new school, Trinity Multi-Academy Trust is committed to setting up and operating Trinity Academy St Edward’s from 1st September 2021, and our partners the Department of Education and Barnsley Metropolitan Council, are working with us to ensure this is delivered. I want to reassure parents that we are on target to open the school in September 2021, this is of course subject to planning and building control permissions, which are in the process of being obtained and we are confident of a successful outcome to meet the needs of the local population. Information will continue to be added to my blogs and the website as it becomes available. Please email us with any questions via giving a contact telephone number, and will be get in touch with you directly.

A HUGE congratulations to our Christmas card competition winner, Tilly Batty! The image above will become the official TAB 2021 Christmas card! We can’t wait to get it professionally printed and sent out to you all next Christmas.

Hear from our wonderful TAB team! From our Executive Principal, Rob Marsh to our newly appointed team members…

Executive Principal | Rob Marsh

Thank you for your interest in our project. I’ve been thrilled at the level of interest so far from parents and students having had the privilege of visiting a number of primary schools and meeting people (at a distance!) at open evening events over the past few months – despite the pandemic! As we approach the opening of Trinity Academy in Barnsley, things are getting really exciting.

My involvement with the Trinity Mat stretches back to its beginning in 2010. As Vice Principal at Trinity Academy Halifax, I worked as part of a team that gained the Ofsted Outstanding grade in 2013 and then became Principal at Trinity Academy Cathedral in 2016. That project has been amazing. I have worked alongside a team of talented staff who have been able to transform an underperforming school into one of the best in the country. At Cathedral we were awarded the TES Secondary School of the Year in 2019 and have been in the top 10% in to the country for academic progress for four years now. Added to that the Christian Ethos at the school was recognised in the SIAMS 2020 inspection which found that the academy was ‘Excellent’ in all areas. These are all experiences that will shape the standard and ambition of the provision in our new school. I have always believed that everything is possible for young people if they apply themselves and take the opportunities that education presents to them. Now we have the chance to make this a reality as we open the new school in September. I look forward to working alongside Mark Allen and the staff at the school to deliver an unrivalled and exciting experience to our students.

Subject Co-ordinator for Arts and Technology | Mr Chris Dyer

We have recently appointed a Subject Co-ordinator for Arts and Technology, Mr Chris Dyer. Chris brings a wealth of experience and an outstanding track record from one of our Trust schools and he will make an excellent addition to the team.

I am enormously excited to be starting my new role as Subject Co-ordinator for Arts and Technology, within our new academy at Barnsley. I have over 20 years of experience working within Art, Design and Technology and I love my subject and the creative nature of it. STEM is at the heart of everything we will be doing at Trinity Academy St Edward’s and I am a passionate advocate of art and technology, both within & outside the classroom. I strongly believe that all pupils should be given the opportunity to explore and grow within an action-packed technology curriculum, and that the visual arts are a powerful force to inspire and raise achievement amongst all students. Your child can look forward to a forward thinking and extra-curricular program of activities in their time at Trinity Academy St Edward’s. My team and I will plan to expose your child to the wonderful world of Art and technology and the fantastic opportunities these subjects create in Post 16 Education & university level establishments. I look forward to meeting you all in September.

Governor | Jenny Davis

I am delighted to announce that we have appointed our second Governor, Jenny Davis. Jenny brings senior leadership experience from a special school setting alongside years of work facilitating school-to-school support. Another excellent addition to our Governing Body.

My name is Jenny Davis and I am honoured to be appointed as a Governor and to be part of this exciting development of a new secondary school in Barnsley. Barnsley is my home town, I am a miner’s daughter and proud of that. I have worked in education for 27 years in various Barnsley schools and Local Authority services. The latter part of my work was as Executive Vice Principal in one of the local schools. I have extensive experience in the areas of safeguarding, multi-agency partnerships and pastoral care. I have also been a Governor over many years both in primary, secondary and special education. I am now recently retired with time on my hands and I am ready to devote some of this to support the growth of this new school. I look forward to meeting everyone when we open and to be part of the exciting journey that we will all share as part of Trinity Academy St Edward’s.

For now, stay safe, follow the Government guidelines and let’s hope we can see the impact of the vaccines soon.

Many thanks,
Mark Allen!
